Chat integrations
How chat integrations work
Chat integrations bring GoPie into the messaging tools your team already uses. Instead of switching to the GoPie app, anyone can ask a question about your data right where they work — in a direct message, a channel, or with a slash command — and GoPie answers in the thread with a short summary, the table behind it, a chart where it helps, and a link back into GoPie for the full picture.
GoPie connects to three platforms:
- Slack — direct messages, channel
@mentions, the assistant pane, and the/gopiecommand. - Microsoft Teams — personal chats and channel or group
@mentions. - Google Chat — direct messages, spaces, and the
/askcommand.
The same grounded Q&A you get in the GoPie app comes through in chat: every answer is produced by a real SQL query against your connected datasets, and it runs with the asker's own permissions.
What you can do#
- Ask a question in plain language and get an answer in the conversation — the numbers, a table, and often a chart.
- Open the full result in GoPie from a deep link in every answer, to keep exploring, save a view, or build a dashboard.
- Preview a GoPie link — paste a dataset, dashboard, report or chat link into Slack or Teams and it expands into a compact card.
- Receive reports — route scheduled and one-off report deliveries to a channel or space, alongside email.
How it works, end to end#
- An admin connects the workspace — an organisation owner or admin connects Slack, Teams or Google Chat from Settings → Integrations, once per platform. See the per-platform guides for the exact steps.
- People find GoPie in chat — message the GoPie app directly,
@mentionit in a channel it belongs to, or use a slash command. - Each person links their account — the first question prompts the asker to link their GoPie account by signing in. From then on their questions run with their own data permissions.
- GoPie answers in the thread — it picks the relevant datasets, writes and runs the query, and posts a self-contained answer with a link back to GoPie.
- Reports arrive where you work — scheduled or manual report deliveries can be routed to a channel or space.
Who does what#
Connecting a workspace is an admin action — only an organisation owner or admin can do it, and it binds the whole workspace to your GoPie organisation. Asking questions is open to anyone in the workspace who links a GoPie account that belongs to your organisation.
ImportantLinking your account is mandatory before GoPie will answer with data. Membership of the Slack, Teams or Google Chat workspace alone never grants access to your data — the asker must have a linked GoPie account that is a member of the organisation. This keeps chat access aligned with the permissions people already have in GoPie.
Your data and privacy#
GoPie only acts on the message you send it. It does not read your channel history, and it stores only the small amount of linking information needed to route replies and match a chat user to their GoPie account — not the content of your conversations. Answers are generated the same way as in the GoPie app: a real query against your data, cited back to the datasets it used.
