Connect Google Chat
AvailabilityConnecting a workspace is done by an organisation owner or admin, and a Google Workspace admin must allowlist the app first.
Connecting Google Chat lets your team ask GoPie about your data in a direct message or a space, and get the answer back in the conversation.
Google Chat connects a little differently from Slack and Teams: there's no install button in GoPie. Instead you mint a one-time connect code in GoPie and redeem it in Chat with /connect. Before that works, a Google Workspace administrator has to allow the GoPie app for your organisation.
ImportantGoogle Chat integrations require a Google Workspace account. Personal Google accounts (
@gmail.com) can't connect.
Step 1 — Allowlist the app (the biggest hurdle)#
The most common reason a Google Chat setup stalls is this step. Most organisations only let their users install apps that an administrator has explicitly allowed, so until GoPie is on that list, nobody in your organisation can find or message it.
A Google Workspace administrator does this once, in the Google Admin console:
- Open Marketplace apps — go to Apps → Google Workspace Marketplace apps.
- Add and allowlist GoPie — add the GoPie app and allow it for everyone, or for the specific organisational units or groups that should use it.
- Confirm availability — once allowed, GoPie becomes findable in Google Chat for those users.
NoteIf GoPie doesn't appear when you search for it in Google Chat, it hasn't been allowlisted yet — check with your Workspace administrator before going further.
Step 2 — Connect your workspace with a code#
With the app allowlisted, an organisation owner or admin links the workspace to your GoPie organisation.
- Generate a connect code — in GoPie, go to Settings → Integrations → Google Chat and select Connect to mint a single-use code (it expires after 15 minutes).
- Redeem it in Chat — in Google Chat, open a direct message with the GoPie app and send
/connectfollowed by your code. - Finish in GoPie — the bot replies with a Finish in GoPie card; select it to return to settings, where the connection is completed and marked connected.
Ask GoPie in Google Chat#
Once connected, anyone in the workspace can ask:
- Direct message the GoPie app and type your question.
@mentionGoPie in a space it has been added to.- Use
/askfollowed by your question.
GoPie replies in the conversation with a short answer and the table behind it, plus a link to open the full result in GoPie.
Link your account#
The first question prompts each person to link their GoPie account by signing in with Google, so answers run with their own permissions.
- Select the link prompt — GoPie posts it on your first question.
- Sign in with Google — this proves you own a GoPie account.
- Ask again — your question now returns a real answer, running as your linked GoPie user.
You can unlink at any time from Settings → Profile → Linked chat accounts.
Deliver reports to a space#
Scheduled and one-off reports can be routed to a Google Chat space. See Deliver reports to channels.
Disconnect#
To disconnect, return to Settings → Integrations and disconnect the Google Chat row.
